My name is Marc Seekircher and I am in charge of product development at Bergamont.
What appeal does gravel have for the brand to make you produce a bike specifically for it?
We come from a district where people are not wanting to be told what to do and what not to do. This applies equally to all freedom-loving cyclists who prefer to move off the beaten track. For all of those, gravel is the perfect answer. That's why we say: "Roads are where you find them."
How has your experience with other categories influenced your interpretation of a gravel bike?
As an urban-based brand, as you can imagine, we get inspiration from almost everywhere. Ultimately, our gravel bikes benefit from our multicultural, creative environment as well as from our long-term experience in building high-end, World Cup proven mountain bikes for rough terrain.
Who do you feel is your target audience for this platform?
Individualists, freedom lovers, racing cyclists who want to try something new beyond UCI standards, but also newcomers and commuters or simply cyclists with high design standards.
Tell us about the bike and any unique features.
We deliberately call our category All-Road, to say that our platform is extremely versatile. The Grandurance family ranges from high-end carbon racers to fully equipped urban aluminium commuters. We have provided appropriate tapped holes for attachments on all bikes. A unique feature is our stylish integrated Mini Mudguard on the fork.
You specify the Shimano GRX group set … was there something particular about this product range that made it the perfect complement to your new bike?
Somehow, a group set that the whole Gravel Community has been waiting for, not only ingenious due to the impressive functionality, but also from a visual point of view. GRX is the perfect complement to our outstanding bike design.
How do you think gravel will develop in the future?
Gravel as a trend can't be stopped. The megatrend will surely split up again into specialized sub-groups - into the rather high-end, light and fast bikes, quite close to a road racing bike or a cyclocross bike, and separately the bikes that can do almost anything, with far more comfort than the race-heavy category and then of course the bikes with maximum tire width, power supply and endless installation options for self-supported racing.
