The CDT is a circular route across 12 valleys, 6 moors and 1 floodplain in West Yorkshire.  It is a multi-day adventure along the watershed of the River Calder.

From ancient bridleways across the Pennine moors to new gravel paths in the Southern Washlands and on through the center of small towns like Hebden Bridge and Marsden this trail takes you through a diverse and stunning landscape.

The words ‘divide’ and ‘trail’ conjure up images of a narrow path on an exposed mountain ridge with views stretching out in all directions.

The Calder Divide Trail is set amongst the South Pennine moors and valleys.  There are no mountain peaks or broad forests but we do have mile after mile of bridleways, causeways and greenways set between “the green moss and the purple heather”.

The watershed of the Calder is not a fixed line, permanently marked on a map. It is a broad divide that separates rivers along a ridge of high ground. In this corner of Yorkshire the watershed is crisscrossed by bridleways, causeways and greenways etched into the landscape over the last 700 years as farmers, labourers and merchants went about their day-to-day lives.
