When you’re looking out of your office window at the dark skies and steady rain pouring down, an email arriving full of images of stunning mountain scenery and jam packed with a sense of gravelly adventure is just what the doctor ordered!
The organisers of the 2022 Gravel Tour du Mont Blanc promise a “route which will alternate rustic and gravel roads including singletrack, forest paths and bike portage in a wide-ranging environment”. The route will take participants over eight mountain cols including two higher than 2500m. The event departs from the mountain town of Megève at 05.00 on Saturday September 3rd 2022 and the organisers estimate the winning riders will be crossing the finish around 21.00.
The route traverses three countries France, Italy and Switzerland and will take riders over “the roof of Europe, between glaciers, torrents, valleys and alpine passes. The event offers a single chance to evolve on a unique, fragile and above all demanding natural territory.”
The event is open to teams of two who will take part in a “relay” style 200km version of the event and solo riders who will take part in a 100kms version of the event. There is also a non-competitive 70km event being run on Sunday 4th September.
Registration for the event opens on 1st January 2022 at the event website
