Welcome to our First Magic Gravel Escape:
Having supported North London Dirt for the last three years, we've been inspired to host our own event that raises money for a vital Huddersfield organisation - The Welcome Centre.
MGE is a 44-mile self-supported gravel ride starting and finishing at our Taproom in Huddersfield. The route has been built with fun in mind with a few ups, but what comes with that is also some zipping fun descents. We've tried to avoid as much tarmac as possible and put in a request for Sunshine (no guarantees)!
Our local area and community are incredibly important to us, and the chance to give a little bit back whilst having a little fun along the way is the key aim of this event. The Welcome Centre is a critical food bank in Huddersfield, but also a lot more than that! A vital hub for residents that need help, support, and advice on various social issues.
Ticket Price - £15
As mentioned previously, this ride aims to raise funds for The Welcome Centre. As a result, 100% of the ticket price will be going directly to support this vital hub. However, we know it's always good to get something in return, so we've pulled together the following rider pack (given out at registration) with the support of our awesome sponsors.
- 1x Custom MGE X Paria Musette
- 1x OTE Anytime Bar
- 1x Custom MGE X Restrap embroidered patch
- 1x MGE X Darkwood 100g special event ground beans
- 1x MGE Reflective bike sticker
- 1x Hope technology water bottle
In addition to this, Dark Woods will be on hand with freshly brewed coffee at rider registration, and we will also be offering a free post-ride drink of Saucery - Magic Lager - Freeride ( Alc Free Citra Pale Ale) - or a soft drink.
The Escape (what you will need):
The ride is roughly 80% off-road along bridleways and byways. Therefore, we'd recommend you ride a bike with suitable off-road tyres, a gravel bike with 40mm tyres will be bob on. When you set off, you will need to be self-supported; a small selection of tools and inner tubes is recommended, alongside anything else you think you'll need to keep you rolling.
We'll be sending you a GPX and TCX route a few days before the ride, so you'll have time to load it into your head units. Whilst we expect people to study the route, part of the fun of any ride is sometimes needing to know what's coming next! Get it loaded but resist studying all the stats. We will also highlight a few of our favourite food and water stops along the way; it is essential to remain fuelled and hydrated throughout the ride.
It's important to remember that this isn't a race; it's a ride that should be enjoyed and savoured in equal measure—coming alone? We'd encourage you to buddy up and enjoy the stoke together (we're friendly folks in Yorkshire). We'd also like to encourage this ride to be a safe place for everyone! To encourage a wider demographic, we've teamed up with Reyt Good Bike Club, a women-led cycling group, leading a guided ride for eight people.
Over to Reyt Club:
Please note that these tickets are reserved for women, non-binary, people of colour and trans folk, along with people who may struggle with riding in large groups. Why? By making a safe space for riders, we’re making cycling more inclusive. Not sure if these tickets are for you? Ask yourself if you’ve seen someone who looks like you riding a bike with no boundaries recently – if this answer is yes, maybe leave these for those that really need them.
Registration
Sign-on at Magic Rock Tap is from 7 am, and we're encouraging people to set off at their leisure, but we'd recommend being on the route by 9.30 am. Spacing people out will make it a more enjoyable experience. As we are on shared trails, please respect other users. We'd recommend fitting a bell to your bike, slowing down, and, as they say, "Be Nice. Say Hi!".
Post ride food
Food trader is available at the rider cost (vendor TBC) - Magic Rock Tap.
The important details:
