My name is Janosch Wintermantel and I am responsible for SCOTT Sports global road, triathlon and gravel marketing.
What appeal does gravel have for the brand to make you produce a bike specifically for it?
For us gravel combines the fun of mountain biking and road cycling like no other category. On a gravel bike you are nearly as fast as on a regular road bike, but yet you also have the possibility to ride on back roads and trails far away from traffic. This category has almost no limits and is perfect for every outdoor lover. We from SCOTT produce products for all kind of outdoor sports and gravel riding was a perfect addition to our portfolio.
How has your experience with other categories influenced your interpretation of a gravel bike?
We had the goal to develop a bike which is almost as fast as a road bike on tarmac but gives you the chance to go nearly everywhere you want. Our knowledge from MTB and road cycling helped us a lot in development of an extremely efficient and versatile gravel bike.
Who do you feel is your target audience for this platform?
We target the performance rider in this category. The rider who doesn’t want to have some compromise when it comes to pedalling efficiency and lightweight.
Tell us about the bike and any unique features.
Our Gravel bike is part of our Addict family. This family stands for extreme lightweight and our Addict Gravel is no exception. It is one of the fastest out there. It is a race machine in the gravel category. It is the bike which you want to have if you plan to take part in races such as Dirty Kanza or you just like to ride fast no matter if it is on gravel, tarmac or flow trails. We clearly target the performance rider in this category.
You spec the new Shimano GRX groupset … was there something particular about this new product range that made it the perfect complement to your new bike?
The Shimano GRX fits perfectly the needs for our gravel bike. It is light, efficient and durable, exactly what we need to make our bike the fastest out there.
How do you think gravel will develop in the future?
We believe it will be become one of the biggest categories in cycling. We wouldn’t be surprised if it even surpasses traditional road cycling one day.
