Riding gravel can literally throw up some challenges that you might not get when riding on the road – small stone chips, trail debris and mud are often thrown off your tyres and seem to head straight for your eyes. Glasses that protect your eyes from impact is obviously the solution, but what if they don’t fit well, obscure your vision, fog up in humid conditions or the lens shade is too dark to accurately identify trail hazards?
Luckily Shimano have thought of all of these issues and designed their Technium Eyewear to overcome them. A full-rim frame, with non-slip temple tips deals with any potential fit issues and a ventilated polycarbonate lens with hydrophobic coating should help improve airflow and minimise fogging.
As well as the impact protection offered by riding eyewear, enhancing your vision, particularly in low-light or shaded conditions, is equally important. Shimano include two lenses in the box – a dark one for bright conditions and a clear one for low light conditions. The dark lens has been designed to “make sunlight and glare appear darker, and trail objects appear brighter”
The frames are available in Metallic Black, Mat Olive, Mustard Yellow or Spice Red colourways and all come with both orange/blue mirror and interchangeable clear lenses. You also get a hard, padded case to protect your investment and a soft pouch which can be used to keep the lenses clean.
