Event details:

The PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE mode is the maximum challenge. The aim is to complete the entire Pirinexus route alone within a maximum time of 18 hours, arriving at Sea Otter Europe before midnight.

This year the tour returns to its origins, first we will go to the Pyrenees and after will come back to Girona from the Costa Brava.

There will be three checkpoints, which participants must pass through within the set time limit to make sure that the event runs at a good pace. Said time limits will become the targets that participants must overcome one after the other. At the end, participants who manage to complete the entire route before midnight will be presented with a finisher trophy that will remind them of this glorious day.

Participants arriving at Sea Otter Europe before sunset will receive a special gift. The race is 340 km distance and 3000 meters of climbing/descending.

EVENT PHILOSOPHY AND CONDITIONS

When Jordi Cantal began to travel the PIRINEXUS route of 340 km in summer 2014, he did not know that at the end, deep in the night, he would have created a new challenge thas has already became a legend. In the sixth edition, start and finish will be in Girona within the Sea Otter Europe festival.

The PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE is currently a personal non-stop challenge of 340km. Participants will have until midnight to complete a route that takes in all types of terrain. All bikes are allowed, although probably the most appropriate are the gravel or the cyclo-cross bikes. Road bikes with 28 (or 25) tyres and mountain bikes 29’ wheels with slicks.

Participants will leave the sea and head inland into the regions of Girona following the course of the Ter river up to the Colomers dam. Once there, the course will turn left towards Les Gavarres mountains. It will then mainly run along the crest of the mountain in an easterly direction, enjoying views of the El Gironès and L’Empordà regions whilst surrounded by cork oaks. All the tracks are in very good condition and have low technical difficulty.

THE MOST SUITABLE BICYCLE

What kind of bikes fall into this definition? Gravel bike, cyclo-cross bike, mountain bike with slicks and a 29” wheel and road resistant bikes with a wheel-arch big enough to mount a 28mm tire.
