The Gear - Timo's folding gravel bike

Timo Rokitta can normally be found riding at high speed on the gravel trails of Europe on either his Moots Routt RSL or on an Allied Able. Both of these are cutting-edge, ultra light and super fast bikes. So when he sent a message saying that he was going to building a folding gravel bike as his next project and a photograph of a box of bits we were more than a little surprised!

Then a short while later, he sent us the images of the finished bike, complete with on-trend Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tan wall tyres and super-neat Ergon bar tape. Timo told us that the bike, which he suspects was made by the Nurnberg-based Hercules Werke AG in the 1970s, used to belong to his mother and has sat, unused in a garage for the past 30 years. With a calliper front brake, coaster rear brake and single-speed set-up, we're not expecting Timo to break any speed records on it, but it certainly looks like a lot of fun!

"You stay young on two wheels"

Bell: Solid and heavy. Perfect for chasing away masters/mistresses including our four-legged friends and with the imprint "You stay young on two wheels" - incredibly motivating.

TIMO ROKITTA

Timo has sent us in the details of his latest build. Not a lightweight überbike like he normally goes for, but a 1970s Hercules folding bike, kitted out for gravel duties. We're not expecting Timo to break any speed records on it, but it certainly looks like a lot of fun!
