For many of us, one of the biggest joys of gravel riding is trying out a new destination. While you can find online route advice and there are some great digital planning tools available, nothing beats first-hand knowledge and riding with a guide is a sure-fire way to find the best riding in a new area. Cycling holiday company Saddle Skedaddle love getting off the beaten track and so have just launched a new range of gravel riding holidays.
Sardinia, Argyll and central Spain might sound like a slightly eclectic combination of destinations to include in a range of newly launched gravel riding holidays, but there is a lot of method in their madness! Running high quality guided cycling holidays is all about having fantastic knowledge of the local area. It might sound obvious, but spending the time researching the route, finding the best accommodation and searching out the local specialities are all that things that will help turn a good gravel riding holiday into an amazing gravel riding holiday.
With the launch of their new range of trips, Skedaddle have chosen to feature some classic, bucket-list destinations, such as Tuscany’s strada bianche but also are drawing on their local knowledge to include less well-known destinations such as Northumberland and southern Sardinia. For 2023 they have six different destinations ready to go and they are already working on an expanded range for 2024 range too.
All of their new 2023 holidays will be offered as guided trips. While the bikepackers among you perhaps will roll your eyes at this, the benefits of local knowledge, backup in case of problems or even someone to shelter behind when there’s a headwind shouldn’t be overlooked. They are hoping their new trips will appeal both to UK gravel riders looking to travel somewhere new, but also to riders based in Europe or further afield who might be interesting in coming to the UK for the first time.
