Our mission at Gravel Union isn’t to bring you in depth analysis and opinion on the latest tech - we’re all about promoting how wonderful gravel riding is and trying to motivate you to get out there and ride.
For this reason, when a press release for a new gravel bike lands, the initial slight panic about the fact there are hundreds of images to search through and detailed copy to read and ingest, is tempered by the fact that what we’re looking for is inspiration. Luckily, a quick glance through Scott’s promo video made us realise that they’re thinking along the same lines – lots of people are interested in the tech details, but the thing that everyone wants to know is what is it like to ride? Based on their beautiful promo video, shot in Spain’s Badlands region, we think the answer is that the new Scott Addict will be super fun to ride:
It would be remiss of us not to mention some of the details – clearance for 45mm tyres, no visible cables, hidden mounts for mudguards and updated geometry (to reduce toe overlap and offer a more balanced ride feel) are the standout ones, but there are a lot of clever, subtle details too.
Integration is the big buzz word in the bike world, regardless of genre and Scott have applied this to the gravel world in a very neat way – hidden mounts, “mechanic friendly” internal routing, integrated computer/light mounts all add to an overall smooth, flowing and seamless look.
Scott are aiming the new Addict at both racers and bikepackers and for that reason there are mounts for a “bento” bag on the top tube, extra bottle cage mounts and an easy way of making the frames 1x or 2x compatible – all smooth, stylish and well thought through.
The new bike is available in women’s (Contessa) and men’s versions, both available with Shimano GRX810 groupsets. You will be able to find all the details, along with pricing, on the Scott website.
The bikes are expected to be available from September/October this year. Form an orderly queue please if you’re interested in buying one.
